Arizona Foodie: Village Tavern Restaurant Visit

You may have noticed the blog I posted on Village Tavern’s pimento cheese deviled eggs, so I had to go to the source and taste them myself! While sitting out on the patio with my family, I enjoyed not only the perfect weather but a nice lunch. Sitting all around me were men and women on their office lunch breaks, the place was bustling! Back to the food though, the pimento cheese deviled eggs were a nice change from your typical deviled eggs and the maple bacon was a sweet touch.

There are two convenient locations for Village Tavern restaurants in Winston-Salem, one in Reynolda Village and one off Hanes Mall Boulevard. Both have wonderful menu options with a little something different at each location. Corporate Executive Chef Mary Grace Viado Howard shares some of those options, what she loves about cooking in winter and one of their well-known, classic recipes.

I could never skip dessert and why would you want to when you could enjoy this butter cake from Village Tavern? The center was warm and gooey, the ice cream helped cool things down and the fresh fruits made me feel a little less bad about wanting to consume the entire thing. I heart you butter cake!

Over at Village Tavern, the dinners have become a way for chef and manager Anthony Bonner to challenge and teach his up-and-coming sous chef, 25-year-old Cody Hall.

Village Tavern has been doing wine dinners about once a month for four years, and they have drawn a regular group who have become friends.

One of the great things about pimento cheese is that you can do so many things with it: Make grilled cheese sandwiches, put it on top of burgers or add it to macaroni and cheese.

Or do like the folks at Village Tavern and put it in deviled eggs, another Carolina classic. Just a bit of pimento cheese stirred into the egg-yolk mixture will really pump up the flavor.

Sometimes you just want a gorgeous cocktail in terrific surroundings. Village Tavern (1880 N. Congress Ave., Boynton Beach, 561/853-0280) announced a new specialty cocktail menu at a fun-to-drink-at bar, and we know the surroundings are half the fun! Try the Key Lime martini (pictured), the Old Fashioned or Pineapple Upside Down martini. They also have 50 wines by the glass (note the half-price wines by the glass on Wednesdays), and have been recognized by Wine Spectator for their wine list. Happy Hour is every day from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The other South Florida location is in Pembroke Pines.
